The Forgotten Daughter

Alisha was the first born, the result of many sacred prayers. Though her mother was blessed with two more children, it was Alisha who was the apple of her eye.

She was pampered and loved; but the day she chose to live with the man of her choice, she was deemed an outcast by the family.

Seven years later, as her mother wept on her death bed, a gentle breeze brushed against her cheeks. She believed it was a final kiss from the forgotten daughter who was banished from her house, but never her heart.

  1. Tragic. Why families should banish children for a reason like that is truly tragic. I know this from personal experience, although many in my family supported me and did not turn their backs. I was fortunate.

  3. Even with our own children. Very well written Aathira, keep it up. Short, crisp and conveying the feeling of Pathos, so well.

  4. Well done with the five words to paint a tragic story. I like to think the spirit lives on and reaches out to heal hearts.

  5. This is so sad - these ego games that parents play sometimes when it comes to choosing our life partner. No one really wants to.

    1. We kids cannot always blame the parents, Nisha. Once we step into the shoes of the parents, then we would realize, what they would be going through!.

      - my opinion.

    2. Ego is a devil that eats away at relationships. Sometimes we have to move past it at a point.

I guess everyone has their own story in this case!

  7. Parents can never banish kids from their hearts. However kids can easily detach themselves. This is total tragedy.

  10. This is so commonplace, I still see this happening in families. Isn't it strange that we forgive and accept so many mistakes of loved ones, but not this act of choosing one's life partner?

  11. If only people realize before it is too late, nicely done!

  12. Many families still have this problem...
They love their children,.. But when they express to marry their love, parental love takes a back seat...
I wish parents believe that their children are capable of taking right choices and that they have brought them up that way!
